Poison center official presents on dangers of vaping Poison center official presents on dangers of vaping: An official from a local poison center spoke to Cato-Meridian students, staff and community recently about the potential hazards of vaping and encouraged all to make good decisions. Lee Livermore, a public education coordinator from the Upstate New York Poison Center at University Hospital, gave five presentations in total throughout the day to caution about the dangers of vaping and nicotine. “The timeframe of 13 to 25 is the most developmental period as youth grows up,” said Livermore, noting that many habits and potential addictions are formed during this period. While the effects of vaping aren’t completely known, Livermore said e-cigarettes can lead to dependence, cardiovascular problems, cancer, oral diseases, poisonings and more. He also spoke briefly ...

ATTENTION PARENTS: Changes to the NYS School Immunization Requirements effective July 1, 2018 ATTENTION PARENTS: Changes to the NYS School Immunization Requirements effective July 1, 2018: New York State has made changes to its school health exam schedule as well as requirements for the meningococcal vaccine, effective July 1, 2018. Beginning July 1, 2018, all New York State public school students must have a health exam when they enter school as a new entrant and in Pre-K or Kindergarten and grades 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11. These examinations MUST be completed on the new required NYSED Student Health Examination Form for School. Medical providers’ offices may not yet be aware of the change, so the Cato-Meridian Central School District encourages parents to bring the official NYSED Health Examination Form with them to their child’s appointment.
