Cato-Meridian Ready to Present 'The Little Mermaid'
After months of hard work and dedication, Cato-Meridian Central School District is proudly to soon present Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” this upcoming weekend.
The musical will follow the classic tale of Ariel, a rebellious mermaid fascinated with life on land. Musical director Lisa Byrne said the district is excited to show everyone what they’ve been working so diligently toward.
“The most exciting aspect if putting this show on will be the little kids,” said Byrne. “We did ‘Beauty and the Beast’ some years ago and seeing the joy on the audience members faces was really special. So, this year, having the ability to bring something so beloved as ‘The Little Mermaid’ to life in front of their eyes… well that’s a pretty magical thing.”
Byrne said she is extremely proud of the hard work the students have put into rehearsals, including the technology and stage crew, who sometimes go unnoticed.
“Our tech and stage crew are ridiculously important. We have amazing new lighting effects to show off this year and with the show being ‘underwater,” there are so many visual effects required to pull that off,” she said. “They are a very dedicated group, and fun!”
Showtimes will be 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9, and 2 p.m. Sunday March 10, 2019, in the middle school auditorium, 2851 Route 370 E., Cato, NY 13033. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children younger than 10 and senior citizens and can be purchased in the school offices.
