School Safety and After-School Activities and Events
Dear Cato-Meridian Families,
Due to current events throughout our country, this letter is to inform you of important information about after-school activities and events at CM. The New York State Education Department sent a memo on September 16, 2024 asking the district safety team to review and strengthen our safety plans, particularly those that take place beyond regular school hours. Please review expectations below in regards to our events at the stadium.
Stadium Game Expectations:
-
Single Entrance for Safety: For everyone’s safety, there will be a single designated entrance and exit. Please use this entrance when arriving and leaving the event to help us monitor and ensure a secure environment for all.
-
Play Fair & Safe: We encourage everyone to play with fairness and sportsmanship. Remember, our main goal is to enjoy the game, so let’s all follow the rules and ensure everyone feels included and respected.
-
No Tag or Horseplay: To keep the game safe and fun for everyone, please avoid tagging, horseplay, or rough behavior. These actions can lead to accidents, and we want to make sure everyone stays injury-free while playing.
-
Supervision: All students in Pre-K through 8th grade must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian throughout the game and the playground will be closed during athletic events at the stadium.
-
Respect the Game & Each Other: We ask all students to respect the game by focusing on the action and supporting the players. Please avoid playing football or other side games while the game is happening, as this can be distracting and unsafe for others.
-
Chaperones in Yellow Sashes: Our chaperones, easily identifiable in their yellow sashes, will be present to help keep the event running smoothly. If you need any assistance or have questions, feel free to approach them.
-
Be a Good Sport: Whether you’re playing or cheering, show your school spirit with positivity! Let’s support one another, follow the rules, and make this a fun experience for everyone involved.
We strive to create a positive environment for our families to enjoy a meaningful and safe athletic event. We hope to be able to work with our community to maintain a great experience for both teams and fans. We are proud of the traditions established here at Cato-Meridian and want to show our opponents good sportsmanship and competitive and fair play.
Sincerely,
Robert W. Wren, Athletic Director and Coordinator of Student Services
