Cato-Meridian FFA Members Gain Hands-On Agricultural and Leadership Experience During National FFA Convention Field Trip

Special thanks to Cato-Meridian FFA reporter Eli Zappala for contributing to this story.

Cato-Meridian FFA members recently traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 97th National FFA Convention & Expo. The trip was an incredible opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience, network with other FFA members from across the country, and expand their knowledge of agriculture and leadership, both at the convention and along the way.

The chapter’s trip was packed with exciting and educational experiences that combined fun, learning, and service. The first stop at Hershey Park provided a great bonding experience for the chapter. At Ohio State University, students learned about invasive species and the basics of greenhouse management. They also explored the fantastic exhibits on the Battle of Gettysburg and American Revolutionary War at Gettysburg Battlefield.

In Indiana, the chapter visited Fair Oaks Farms, an agri-tourism center. Students gained knowledge about agricultural practices and left having a deeper understanding of modern agriculture. At the next stop, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, they saw the victory circle and learned about the history of the track.

The students then arrived at the Indiana Convention Center for the National FFA Convention & Expo. They heard from guest speakers, attended workshops, and spoke with exhibitors and colleges. During the National FFA Day of Service, students spent time addressing invasive species in the area. Other fun outings throughout the trip included the Megan Moroney concert, a visit to Skyzone Trampoline Park, and a rodeo at the Indiana State Fair.

FFA’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
