Maggie Brown Recognized for 1,000 Career Points in Track & Field

Junior Maggie Brown was recently recognized for achieving 1,000 career points as a track & field athlete. Brown, who has been a member of the indoor and outdoor track & field teams since eighth grade, is the first Cato-Meridian track & field athlete to reach this milestone.

In dual meets, against a single team, first place scores 5 points, 3 points for second place, and 1 point for third place. In larger meets such as invitationals, against 10 to 20 teams, the scoring system is:

First place: 10 points
Second place: 8 points
Third place: 6 points
Fourth place: 4 points
Fifth place: 2 points
Sixth place: 1 point

Brown’s points for outdoor and indoor track have been combined.

This is the most recent accomplishment of Brown's impressive athletic career at Cato-Meridian. In eighth grade, she advanced to the State meet in cross country. As a freshman, she qualified for the New Balance National meet for high jump. Last year, she placed fourth overall at the state championship in pentathlon. And this year, she has earned an invitation to compete at the prestigious Louck’s meet, which will take place outside of New York City this May. Each season in both indoor and outdoor track, Brown has advanced to either the State open qualifier meet or the State meet, extending her regular season.

According to coaches Donna Cappellano and Ryan Ellis, Brown is known for showing up every day and putting in the work, whether it is at practice, clinics or summer training sessions. Her achievement is a testament to her grit and determination.
